I am trying to connect my Mac running OS 10.9.5 to a PC running Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1. I have run the Remote Desktop Assistant, and have entered in the information in what I believe are the correct places in MRD, and am getting the following message:

Has anyone seen any issues with using Remote Desktop under Mac OSX 10.9.5 where the icons go missing across the desktop? I also have problems with executing certain desktop applications. It tells me it cannot find specific programs that are already installed and working locally. I'm connected to a Windows 7 Professional workstation during this issue.

I have a mac os x 10.9.5 with Teamviewer version 12.0.2, it seems it's the last update available for this mac. On the Windows 10 PC I had the last Teamviewer version. I couldn't connect to the pc from the mac, and a thread here said I need to have the same version or older on the pc to be able to connect from the mac. So I downloaded version 12.0.2 to the PC. Still can't connect because now it says I'm using an old version on the pc. Can someone please advice?

The built-in Apple Screen Sharing works nicely too, although I experienced hangs with xterm on the remote (tracked as "linux xterm problem" in Apple Support Communities). The built-in is accessible from Safari through vnc://hostname in the address bar. If launched once, you can right-click on the icon in the dock and choose Options > Keep in Dock for easy access.

He seems unaware of the period when apple had broken compatibility with non-apple VNC servers, but other than that his instructions seem great, and work beautifully on OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.6. (I'm no longer on 10.9.5)

Because of network load, network latency, and CPU load the experience will not be optimal for your users.
