With the release of Super Mario 3D World, the game was released to the Wii U, the GamePad, and the New 3DS as e-Reader cards. The cards contain the same levels as the Nintendo 3DS version, but do not have the Switch cards, as the GamePad in the Wii U release does not have the capability to deactivate effects. The e-Reader cards also have a few features exclusive to this release, such as a feature where the GamePad can be set as a second screen and be used as a controller. Another first is the inclusion of the Battle Mode, which, in this game, works similar to New Super Mario Bros. Wii. With the Battle Mode, Mario must find and defeat the five Koopa Troopas whilst collecting coins scattered across the level, with each Koopa Troopa having a different power-up. Also exclusive to the Wii U version is the addition of the Tea Cups, which serve a similar purpose to the Tea-Time items from Super Mario 3D Land.
On July 27, 2015, it was announced that an update to Super Mario 3D World would add the ability to create custom levels, although the functionality was removed from the Japanese version in November of that year. Additionally, a new feature called World Tour, which allows the player to visit the world at two different times and choose which version to play, has been added. The European version of the game includes both World Tour and World Tour Plus, whereas the Japanese version only has World Tour. It was released in Japan on September 30, 2015, and is also included in the Super Mario 3D World Plus Edition released to the Nintendo 3DS in 2016.
In Japan, a free-to-play version of Super Mario 3D World was released on February 23, 2016. Called Super Mario 3D World Free Run, this version is a full-fledged remake of the 3D World game with a new story, new courses, and new characters.
A sequel, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, was released on the Nintendo Switch in Japan on May 8, 2019 and in Europe on May 11, 2019, but does not feature cross-play. The Nintendo Switch version features a Nintendo Switch Online account and also features cross-save and cross-play, however, this can be disabled. The eShop version also features cross-save but does not have cross-play.
The Nintendo Switch version features re-recorded Japanese voiceovers, which are also included in the North American release. This version also features cross-play and allows players to use a Nintendo Switch Online account to unlock downloadable content. The Nintendo Switch version was also released on the Nintendo Switch eShop worldwide on October 16, 2019. The eShop version is the same as the Nintendo Switch version with the cross-play feature disabled and only being available in Japan and Europe. As the eShop version is the same as the Nintendo Switch version the Japanese version of the game is not available on the Nintendo Switch eShop in Japan.
More details about the NVIDIA implementation will be discussed in another blog post. In the source code release, we have included an example using the latest CUDA SDK. A simple GPU test bench is included that will show off the high quality (no aliasing) anti-aliasing. The performance of the SMAA-HQ shader will be similar to the SMAA-PC shader. 827ec27edc
